'Orfebres' is a project honouring my Colombian heritage and the timeless golden relics that can be found at the Museo del Oro (gold museum) in Bogotá.
The title comes from 'Orfebreria' which means 'goldsmithing' in Spanish, though it would have been called a different name in the native tongues of the indigenous peoples who practiced it.
These motion pieces are a quirky re-inventions of a range pre-columbian pieces of gold ware, such as anthropomorphic figures from Tolima culture, Colombia.
They are also influenced by other artefacts, such as a sundial and an African Mask, to reflect a wider context of the age of exploration and colonisation in the timeline that brings these treasures to museum displays today.
More so than commentary on this history, these pieces are meant as a celebration of beautiful heritage from native craftspeople that still shines bright, bringing them to life in the digital age.
