'Canine Artefacts' is a project that highlights man's best friend in different cultural contexts, as dogs have been with us since the dawn of civilisation.
As the title suggests, it features three dog-relic fusions: Xoloti, Foo, Attica.
Each represents a epoch with a distinct craft in which dogs were immortalised:
• Xoloti: The toy terrier, based on Mesoamerican pre-Columbian tributes to the dog breed that would eventually become the Chihuahua.
• Foo: The guardian dog, a rusted remnant of the bronze relics from bygone Chinese dynasties.
• Attica: The elegant hound, patterned with the imagery of vases from the red-figure period of ancient Greek pottery.
The piece was made of a show in a gallery space in Bogotá, among paintings, drawings & sculptures of dogs. It was included as a framed QR code on the wall. Upon scanning it, curious visitors are taken to a domain which would output one of three 'Canine Artefacts' at random.
